Diabetes Upskilling Sessions for WA Health Professionals

Diabetes WA LIVE - Health Professionals is a series of educational webinars and upskilling sessions for health professionals, run by Diabetes WA Credentialled Diabetes Educators. They offer support and training to health professionals who would like the latest diabetes management advice.  Each interactive webinar will run for approximately 30 minutes, with extra time for questions.

In addition to Zoom, we are using Scopia for some of these sessions to increase access for regional WA health professionals. You can find more information about those on our website here

Did you know that our Diabetes WA LIVE - Health Professionals upskilling sessions are now available online? We have various sessions that we have recorded and they are ready for you to view. At this stage, we aren’t recording any of the next few sessions but we will be re-starting this later in the year.

Hypoglycaemia

For people with diabetes who use insulin, the fear of hypoglycaemia can influence their decisions around target BGLs and exercise. Managing hypos can reduce both short term and long term effects of diabetes. This session will discuss the causes and treatment of hypos, but most importantly, how to prevent it.

Pregnancy & Pre-existing Diabetes

Tuesday 9 February 2021

This session discusses the role of the health professional in helping women with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who are interested in planning and preparing for pregnancy. We will look at the importance of pre-conception planning and then journey through each trimester of pregnancy looking at the risk of elevated BGLs for both the mother and baby in addition to what to expect during each trimester.

Coeliac Disease & Diabetes

Narelle will discuss what is coeliac disease, who is at risk and how to manage it. This session will also look at how coeliac disease may impact diabetes management.

Diabetes & Mental Health

This webinar will discuss how mental health conditions can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. It will help health professionals to identify who needs to be screened and what can be done to help reduce the risk. This session will also discuss how mental health issues may impact on the management of diabetes.

Hormones & Managing Diabetes

Hormonal changes can have a major impact on blood glucose levels. This webinar will discuss how periods of hormonal changes, such as menstruation and menopause, may affect diabetes management and how to manage blood glucose levels during those times.
